By tevita ·
I have a customer with a PC which everytime it bootup to Windows, its hang. Even I plug in a new hdd and trying to install a new OS, it still hang when its started to run setup. When I reset the PC, I got blank screen. It can only bootup if I turn off and turn it on again. I changed the ram and video card, it does not make any differents. The motherboard is a Jetway 771AS, Video card is Winfast Geforce3, Ram is a 256mb pc100 and Cpu is a Amd 750mhz. The OS is Win XP Pro. I cannot find any upgrade for the motherboard's bios. When I tried to install a different OS on a new Hard disk, it does not make any differents. Please help me.

Check te Power Supply and CPU fans to see if they are operating properly, this problem could be due to poor air circulation causing a heating problem.

Try disabling ACPI in the Control Panel to see if this will solve the problem.

Not long ago I dealt with a rebooting PC. It would boot to Win98, the desktop icons would appear, and the tray items were loading. At that point it would reboot. I swore it had to be a startup item, but after disabling nearly everything the problem continued. The clincher was when I finally gave up and rebuilt it with a clean Win98 install. The reboot was STILL happening. A motherboard replacement finally solved the problem. As others have suggested, the motherboard may be the cause of the problem you are encountering as well. Good luck!

1. From the bios, select halt on NO errors and see if it boots normally.

2. GeForce3+ boards are power hungry boards. A cheap psu under 300w doesn't always have a steady 3.3v, which can cause the hang.

3. On the motherboard. Check the large capacitors around the cpu. The ends should be completely flat. If even one of them has a rounded out end, you've found your problem.

Good luck.
