PC shut down suddenly!

By Virgoan ·
I have 2 PCs running on win98 are shutting down suddenly...all a long they are okay (PC already 3 years old). I have already scanned the PC remotely with up-to-date virus definition, no virus was detected. Anyone can tell me why this is happened? Thanks in advanced

is that two pc on the internet?

if they are, most likely, they have been hacked.

when you say shutting down suddenly, do you mean, 1) shutting down like the normal windows shut down, or
2) like everything is gone in a split second?

more info are needed, like
1) anything done to them recently?
2) what are you doing when it happen? etc.....

Thanks for your reply.

Impossible they have been hacked because no Internet access. I mean one was just gone when it was unattended for few hours. Another one was running for 24 hours.

More info...
1) Nothing has been done to them recently. No new application has been installed. They are connection to LAN.
2) One was unattended for hours then just gone (shut down). Another one was running for long hours.

Check the CPU and Power supply cooling fans.

If either fan fails, parts of your PC can overheat and cause a shut down.

You may need to replace the component protected by the fan in addition to the fan itself.

Have you checked the power management in the control panel to ensure the setting is not configured to shut the PC down after a specific period of time? say 5 hours...

Hi,
A voltage spike or underrun [low voltage] can cause that behavior.
What other comes to mind is extreme ambient air temps, ie; on really hot days I shut all my pc's down as it is summer here. Many pc's have auto shut down at high temps to protect them.
Have fun and enjoy.

Hi
Check the Power Mgmt First.
Frankly, Microsoft Win98 is not a stable one.
U try working with DOS alone, if problem still persist, do reply plz.
