Pc will not power up

By commodity1956 ·
I have a HP pavilion with Windows ME installed. I shut down my pc through the power options menu. Now I can't get it to power up at all. It's just dead now. Unplugged it,hold start button on long time. Nothing seems to get it to start. This is weird!!

When you plug it in, observe the cooling fan in the back. Does it move? If yes, then your power supply is good. If there is no power light then it is likr;u to be your mother board. Open the case and reseat all the adapter cards and verify all connections and reseat the Processor. Try to boot again. Hope this helps.

fan running? Any lights? If not then you have defective P/S Need more symptoms. If no indiation of power then no use going much further. You could try unplugging the H/D power and see if it tries to boot. If not then unplug other boards.

To follow on what others mentioned, reseat, reseat, reseat.
Resest all the boards, make sure that all the chips on the mother board are down tight, check any fuses, power supply, mother board. If you have a Multimeter, check if you are getting power to power supply from the line cord, if that works, try to see if you get voltages to the mother board. 'unload' or disconnect the hard drives power cables, see it that changes anything, check for signs of anything that heated up and left discoloredcomponents. Your start button might be defective, use a multimeter to check that first.
