pc won't boot

By johancnel ·
I have a huge problem. I have built a brand new pc and when I hit the power button, it won't boot and the system speaker start beeping and doesn't stop at all. I would appreciate any help/suggestions. The pc specs are as follows: Intel P4 2Ghz, Gigabyte GA-8VD667K Motherboard, Seagate 80Gb HDD, FDD, CD-ROM. Note that there are no other cards on the motherboard.

the beeping you hear is called post codes. If you look at the documentation thta came with you mother board you can usally find out what each post codes means, however for the purpose of you question i will tell you to start with the basics.Double check you video card is firmly in place.Next check to make sure your ram is in place in the same fashion. And a big one to try if your computer comes with on board video and you are using another video card try placing the video card on the onboard port and entering the bios to disable on board video.hope this helps

Make sure that your clear CMOS, and case intrusion jumpers are set correctly.

You must also connect a monitor to the VGA port, and have it powered on.

If the above is correct, follow the clear CMOS procedure.

From the way you describe the problem I would be thinking that your ram is not seated properly, ( continous beeping)also you could eliminate more by as the Chas said put a monitor to it.

If you have a monitor connected and have ck'd all the other listed suggestions, and you still have no boot up....
ck your jumpers on the motherboard to make sure that are at the correct speed,
...ie. some chips etc. only run at 1 speed (maybe 100mhz, etc.) while your motherboard may be capable of a that speed and higher speeds...in you manual it should list if not show you the porper jumper settings for each speed... start the board out with the lowest setting and see if that changes anything
