PC2PC direct connect w/serial or parallel

By twuf ·
I tried connecting 2 WinXP Prof computers using direct parallel cable.I need to transfer files from old one to new one.(i have no network card in one) I got 'connected' but what do you do next?? You cannont transfer files/there is no way to explore other computer. Can you recommend some software that works with direct connect? I tried the Files Transfer Wizard but that don't work with parallel. I tried connecting with serial and got 'connected' but you have to 'disconnect' to use the Files Trans. Wiz. What the heck? MS Knowledge Base leaves a lot to be desired. Please lead me straight.

have enabled file sharing on both machines
anther way to do this would be too put the
hard disc from the old machine into the new
machine as a slave then all you have to do is copy and paste

Yesirree.. remove drive from old machine, slave to newer one, drag and drop files...

For Parallel or Serial null modem connections / file transfers, it's just like on a network. Must have username and password on both pc's, share a folder wheter it be c drive or a general shared folder, then setup direct connection.

Works fine...

i know i can simply put old hard drive in new computer but i want to learn to use direct connect (for clients who don't want to use transfer hdd option). I have user name and password on both pc's (that's why i am able to connect)/and folders sharing enabled (which i should be able to see the Shared Documents Folders at least) but i only get connected with no way 'see the other drive'.

Thank you! The link was the perfect site. the site itself still didn't have my answer but a download text file it offered did. the last sentence in the procedure instructed me to 'map the network drive'. You cannot see the other computer in Win Explorer or My computer or Network places but mapping the drive got me there. I had to put in the 'drive & folder' about 5 times before it finally found the computer and i connected. Thanks!

Try going to Start/Run. Type in \\computername\c$
Do this logged in with administrative privileges.

Get a copy of Linkmaven. You install the host and remote pieces on each Pc depending which way you are transfering files. The interface looks a little like explorer.
