PCI COMMUNICATION DRIVER

It's sounds as though the problem is coming from the IDE controller. If you have a boot up disk, try that and start up with CD-ROM Support. If the CD-ROM works in DOS, then you can try re-installing winodows.

If that seems a bit severe, if you ausing system restore, try rolling your system back to a point where the drives did work. If you use this option, make sure that any Anti-Viral software you are using is disabled. If you know how to take a screen shot of the device manager, mail it to me and I will take a closer look.

E-mail address is lynas007@hotmail.com

Good luck.

You don't say if you recieved driver disks when you got the computer. If you did, try them.

A PCI Communications device is a generic temr for a modem. Do you have disks or a manual for it? If you do have a disk keep it handy to use later.

Often problems are caused by duplicate device drivers (i.e. two cdrom drivers) because as the hardware ages, Windows thinks it's a new device.

Have you tried rebooting into the safe mode? To do this, reboot the machine and hold down the left shiftkey (or tap F5 repeatately) while the system boots.

Once you are in the safe mode, right-click on My Computer and choose properties. Once you are in System, choose the device Manager.

Look for any devices with a yellow circle or a red x. Remove them. Next, look for any items that are duplicated.

Click the plus in the first category - normally CRDOM, and check to see that there is one for the cdrom. If there are two, delete both. Continue with the next category, but ignore System Devices. Ignore (cancel) any request to reboot and ensure that the ones you delte are duplicates not similar.

When you are done, close Systems properties and reboot the computer. This is where you need the driver disks foir any devices you removed.

You have two problems. One with your PCI modem and another with your IDE setup. Are both cd roms (DVD and CD) on the same cable? Did you make one master and the other slave. Are they in the secondary connector on the motherboard? By the way leave Mealone, upgrade to Win 2000 or XP. Can you uninstall the cd and dvd's and see if windows will pick them up automatically? Below is an answer I located that could solve your problem:

I am using the assumption that you have installed or left installed during an upgrade

This fix seems to have worked for lots of people with the same problem as yours.

I just went thru this same thing. The end result was the RAM went down. It started with the floppy drive, CD-RW drive, and then applications that suck up lots of resources. I did everthing that is suggested so far, and some. When you wipe out the drivers in safe mode, reboot back to real time, Windows looks for the driver. Cancel that or you will loop back to the same problem. The driver is on the Win disk. You go to Control Panel, You select Hardware, You hit Browse and go to the CD to installthe driver, remember the name of the hardware causing the conflict. After you intall, reboot, Win will once again look for the driver, hit cancel, next reboot it will stop looking if the Control Panel, Systems, Device Manager Doesn't show any yellowor red colors on your driver. If it still does then you have to make the decision to take it to a shop. Try and back up the data before you take it. Even tho I thought I would loose info installing the RAM it didn't change anything but the date and time.
Good luck!

You lost several system drivers.

You do NOT need to re-install Windows.

You need to identify if your motherboard has an Intel, SiS or a VIA chip-set.

These will be the large black ICs on the motherboard other than the CPU itself.

Then, you need to download the chip-set driver.
If this is a name brand system, you should be able to download the driver from the manufactures web site.

Installing the chip-set driver should correct your CD problem, and may allow Windows to self correct the PCI communications device problem.

The PCI communications device is most likely your modem.

You need to identify the modem, and download the driver for it.
