PCI Serial Controller Driver

From what I remember, when windows 95 detects a PCI modem it asks for a "PCI Serial Controller Driver". You should have received a disk with your OEM card that has the driver on it. Windows is not asking for a spereate driver, it is actually asking for the modem driver it self, it just uses a strange name for it. If you did not get a disk with your OEM card, the following link to 3Com's site will get you drivers:

http://support.3com.com/modemsupport.htm

Or, ask the vendor you purchased the card from if they have a driver disk for you, as it SHOULD ship with one. Once you pop the driver disk in and tell windows to look there, it should come up with the make/model of the modem as the driver name. After that it should install the correct driver from the floppy. Hope this helps!

After you locate the driver disk for your particular modem you should start from scratch. I suggest that you remove the component and then boot the computer and go to the device manager and locate an exclamation point by a device (pci seral controller perhaps) and remove this from the menu. Then follow the directions as to the correct installation for the device. Some devices will require that the driver be loaded first and then the device installed. Hope this helps.

Go to the device manager and find the device, it should have an exclamation point on it. Highlight it and then click properties. Click on the drivers tab and then on update driver. Put the dirver disk that you should have in the floppy drive and put in the proper .inf file. It should work.
Sometimes it finds the Com port first.

Hi,

First, if your modem did not come with a driver diskette or CD (which it should of) then goto www.3com.com to find the driver that most matches your card. 3Com will no provide support for OEM card, but you can try calling, and sometime the technician will help you.

Secondly, when you first install the modem, then startup Windows 95, the card should have been detected and ask for driver. But if not, then check the "Device Manger" and look for a Yellow-Question Mark, which usually show "PCI Communication Device" because the modem is recognize but the driver was not install. You can double-click on this device, goto "DRIVER" tablet, then choose "update driver", then point to the location of the driver diskette or CD or where you have extracted to from 3Com driver download.

One other issue to check is "Resource Conflict" if your system has an ATX-Motherboard, then you are mostlikely using PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard. If so, then the two addition Serial Port (COM1 & COM2) are not in use but is

To make win95 recognize the modem, copy the *.inf files come with the driverdisk to your \windows\inf. Then boot your PC. And everything is easier now!
