PCI-U card in a PCI-X slot

by geoffrey.a.margow . Updated 19 years, 1 month ago

We are upgrading our servers, and the new Dell 2900s no longer have a PCI slot. We have arcnet that are PCI-U (and have been told they are compatible) in the PCI-X slot (no PCI-E cards).

The issue is that while the card is recognized, and appears to poll the other machines, as soon as a process that requires the machines to talk to the server is kicked off, the application freezes.

We have verified that the settings are all the same on both the old and new server. We have also tried enabling NetDDE services, but that only makes it worse.

Can anyone think of something that might be causing problems? Are there any known pci_x/PCI-U issues?

Thanks
