The printer is connected to WinXP. Right-click on the printer and "share" it. Add any users you want to give access to it.

Configure the Win98 computer to use the printer through the network.... do not install the software on the win98 computer.

On the Win98 computrer all you need to do go to the Printers folder --> Add a printer --> Next --> Network Printer and brouse for it.

If your network is working, then the win98 computer should "see" the printer and print to it as needed.

Try creating a user on the xp box with the same id as the one on the W98 box. I ran into this problem with w2000 not sure if will work with xp

You might also need to install printer drivers from within XP by stating that other OS will use the printer. Select the OS that is going to use the printer and set to download the appropriate driver.

You make sure you do the previous answers plus one important thing -- make sure you have the same workgroup name in both PC's. Xp automatically sets it to MSHOME. I guess older pc's set it to WORKGROUP.

if it still doesn't work set your pc's ip'sto 192.168.0.1 and the other to 192.168.0.2. subnet 255.255.255.0. Reboot the win98 pc. win2k and above don't need reboot in this change.
