Ping - Router issue

By dn72701 ·
I haven't worked with routers for a few years and need some assistance here. I am sure it is an easy one. I have a Cisco 2621 with FA0/1 set w/ip 172.21.1.1.....with a x/over cable attached to an xp laptop with ip addr 172.21.1.4.....I can ping the router but when I telnet/ssh into the router from the xp laptop I cannot ping the laptop from the router.

XP firewall is turned off.

What have I overlooked?

If this is not a production router

telnet/ssh/console to the router and run:
"debug ip packet"
Then try to ping the laptop. Post the output from the debug. Oh yeah, if you telnet/ssh to the router you will need to run "term mon" to see the debug output. After you are finished with the debug, run "undebug all".
