playing VCDs on the PC

By deepa_vvn ·
I have tried to play a VCD on the PC using the latest version of Windows Media Player on Windows 2000.An error is given which says "format not recognised".However this plays perfectly on another PC with Windows XP.Is the problem with the CD or the PC?

The problem is probably the ROM drive itself. There are several CD-ROM formats and many older drives unable to read the newer formats. If the drive is new the multimedia CODEC that reads the VCD could be missing or corrupt.

Insert the VCD in your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM and browse to the MPEGAV folder and double click on the .dat file and associate it with Media Player and open them with that.

Some drives will not play them.
