Make sure that you have updated the BIOS Install the latest Service Pack for WIN98 Install with the latest drivers. The most important part is to install SR1,before installing and using. Check the manufacturers web site for any known problems that may have been kposted concerning this problem
There is a patch available from the manufacturer. I have had a plextor failing to be recognised by the Adaptec Easy CD creator, will be seen as a reader in windows but the adaptec software won't burn to it. If you are having a problem with the adaptec software as well you will need to get the patch for the adaptec software so that it can recognise the burner. This was our key issue, Easy CD Creator was unable to see a burner installed in the system. Even though under device manager it is recognised as a burner.
Is your CDR SCSI or IDE ?? how old is it? If it is a very new drive (less than 6 months) then you probably find problems with most CDR software unless it is very new. The only solution is either to replace your software or your CDR, also it is fairly normal for windows to recognise CDR drives as CDRoms and the drives will only be correctly ideftified by CDR software.
