If the PNP software device enumerator is not installed yet...
Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add New Hardware, Click "Next" twice. Select "No, the device isn't in the list" and then click "Next"
Select "No, I want to select hardware from a list" and then click "Next" Double-click on "System Devices" Select "Microsoft" at the left side of the panel. Double-click on "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator" at the right side of the panel.

You should find it under your Device Manager, under System. It is a System Device.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Dave

The enumerator does not show under system devices, so i added it per the instructions above, and when i went back to check out problem devices in system information, there are now 2 instances of it there! it still does not show under system devices in device manager. is there a way to delete them both and start over?

I tried to add the device thru add new hardware, and, sure enough, I added it. But now under components/problem devices, there are 2 instances of pnp enumerator failure! How do I delete them both, and add a fresh instance? Thanks, Mark.
