    Port/ Switch locking

    Locked

    by venishan_n ·

I recently installed a new server (ibm x3650) with server2008, my gig switch had no free ports hence I plugged the server into a 10/100 switch. I have now managed to free up a few ports on the gig switch but when I plug the server into the gig switch it is only able to see itself and cannot see or be seen by the other servers and workstations. when I plug it back into the 10/100 switch, the server works fine. any idea as to why the server does this and how do i go about resolving the problem?

    Thanx in advance.
    Regards
    Venishan

All switch ports are not built alike. You may have to configure the port to let it know that it is a Server attached to it. Cisco layer 2/3 sitches are designed this way. look there first.
It may also be port intrusion detection shutdown. May just need to be renabled. It may reanable after a length of time automatically.
