Ports for Netware

By Bryan Lee ·
I have two machine which separated by a firewall. I want this two machine communicate through IPX/SPX over netbios instead of using the TCP/UDP over netbios. What port need to be open on the firewall?

You don't need to open any ports. IPX/SPX is not a part of the TCP/IP suite and doesn't work that way.

You need to configure your firewall to let non-TCP/IP protocols pass through.

How you do this will depend on what firewall you have. Many inexpensive firewalls can't do this.

Look in the users' guide for your firewall. Here is an example for a netscreen 5GT
http://ns5gt-support.netscreen.com/knowbase/root/public/nskb3203.htm?

If you have a linux box and are using IP chains or packet filtering to do this, I believe that you must configure the bridge to let IPX/SPX to pass through.
