Preventing collisions on a LAN?

by peter bate . Updated 25 years, 8 months ago

Hi there,

I have 2 10/100 3com Superstack hubs that uplink to an Intel 10/100 switch. Network performance is pretty good, exept I have noticed when I am running the service packs for the PC’s off a server, I am getting a lot of collisions through the uplink port from the hub to the switch. Both hubs are experiencing this behaviour.

Also, I am noticing that the uplink only runs at 10Mbps, whilst the rest of the ports are at 100.

How would I get the uplink ports to run at 100Mbps andreduce the collision rate during large data transfers? Is it a duplex issue? Or should I connect a second uplink to each hub?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Peter
