I have found HP to be helpful. Try this page:

REmove power. Remove all covers.remove toner
cartridge, remove fuser unit.Vaccum the inside of the machine. You will find a lot of dust and toner.Check fuser unit for wear
on gears etc. Make sure you use an anti-stactic vaccum unit. reassemble machine and
run built in diagnostics. Most problems with
lasers are because of dirt and paper dust
collecting over a period of time. The first
thing to go is usually the fuser unit.Do not
use rebuilt units for both fuser and toner.
you will avoid a lot of problems.By the way
HP does not manufacture printers. All their
printers are made by CANON.Even the part
numbers in their manuals are CANON part numbers. If you look up CANON parts distributor you will get parts at a much better price.
Good luck

I also forgot to mention the black foam anti-static roller on the bottom front of the printers. It should not be cleaned. If it has
marks on it replace.I always replace that
roller once a year.It is a very critical
component.
