Check the Printer Folder, Right Click on your printer, check its the default printer.
Check the properties then check the Ports Tab LTP1 is checked, check the Advanced tab, try ‘print directly to printer’ button.
Check the Device Settings tab to see it matches your printer.
Be ruthless and re-install your printer.
Check options from inside the Application e.g. Word, Print menu.
Try logging on as another user e.g. an administrator.-

Uninstall printer, reinstall printer, do not install dos drivers. Install only windows drivers, if it works ok and you want to print from dos, then open printer properties, details, port setting, select spool to MS-dos option.

If the computer you were previously running was win95, you may need to get some diferent drivers, otherwise you will probally need to uninstall and reinstall the printer.

Make sure that your Printer Port (LPT1) is not disabled. Click Start/Settings/Control Panel. Double-click System. Click on Device Manager tab. Click the + sign on left of Ports (Com & Lpt). Click on ECP Printer Port (LPT1). Click on Properties button.
Make sure that “Disable in this hardware profile” is not checked.
… or make sure that the printer port is not set to print to a file. Check Properties of printer. Click Start/Settings/Printers. Right-click the printer. Click Properties. Click the Details tab. Make sure that “Print to the following port” does not say “FILE: C:\

Since you fail to mentioned the type of printer that you have, I will assume that it is an HP, if not this should still work. If after re-installing the drivers and or printer software and it still doesn’t work. Just install drivers for the HP LaserJet 4 printer. This driver seems to work for most HP printers except the ones that are color.
