Printer Instances in Server 2003

By lcajigas ·

I know I used to be able to do this on W2K... but in Windows Server 2003, how can I create another instance of a printer so that in Printer1 I can have it's preferences set one way, and in Printer2 (same printer and drivers) I can have it's preferences set in a different way.

I'm trying using the Add Printer Wizard but it does not give me an option to change the printer name, so it doesn't create a copy of itself.

I know its been asked before, but doing a search with the word printer, generates several thousands of hits.

I just went through it and created a copy1.
Printer wizard/connected to this comp/same port/same exact driver/keep driver/rename printer box with copy1 already added.
Is there something you forgot to tell us?

It works

Hi Kenone, thanks for the reply.

Well it works. I never tried the option 'local printer' since it IS a network printer attached to a print server.

I guess its not printed through the server because the job its not logged on the event viewer.
