Printer Maintenance (network)

By Martin J ·
I am looking into justifying having our network printers under a maintenance plan and have a few questions.
1. When is a good time to have printers under maintenance (directly after the warranty expires)?
2. When is a good time to take a printer off maintenace?
3. Are there any benchmarks that show what a useful life of printer should be?
Any feedback on this topic would very much appreciated!! Thanks, Martin

Maintenance

My experience has been to contract maintenance with the same company from which you purchased the printers. That way, the change over from warranty to maint. period is much smoother.

We use only HP printers, and as far as removing them from maintenance, we have found that our printing needs change before we can wear out a printer, so we remove them from a contract when they go out of service.

As far as benchmarks go, HP has standards for duty cycle etc. for each printer, but I have found that we really can't wear them out. It really depends on your business needs. I would consult with your vendor to formulate a plan of upgrades/retirements etc.
