Printer with a Mind of its Own

By arichart ·
I am having trouble with a HP LaserJet 2100 on a WIN98SE machine that has picked up the habit of printing a page that touts its "capabilities" several times a day for no reason. Any suggestions?

Does this printer do this every time it is powered on? I'd suspect a faulty power supply.

If it's a brand new printer and under warranty, I'd take it back and exchange it.

No, actually it does this at irregular intervals during the day while it is on. Thanks for your input anyway!

Check the following steps to solve this issue:
1. The printer may be plugged into a surge protector or power strip.
Plug the printer directly into the wall. Surge protectors and power strips do not always provide adequate power to the printer. There will be enough power, which will allow the engine to run and spit out blank pages, but not enough to process print jobs accurately.
2. The sealing tape may still be in the toner cartridge or the toner cartridge may be empty.
Remove the toner cartridge and verify that the sealing tape has been removed.
Re-install the toner cartridge. Press the GO button on the printer control panel to print a demo page. If the page is still blank, try another toner cartridge.
3. The file may have blankpages.
Check your file to make sure that it does not contain blank pages.
If your cursor is appearing on a blank page within a file, then that page will also print. Delete any blank pages from the document that you do not wish to print.
SelectPrint Preview (if available) to verify the number of pages in the file.
