Printers can not find print server.

By rhaddon ·
This morning when I came in none of the netwrok printers that are setup and deployed in our print server have disapeared. I have rebooted the server (WinServer 2003)with no luck, manually shutdown and restarted print spoller also with no luck.

The printers are still listed under Deployed printers and under ports and all the drivers are still there.

I ran Windows updates and they all installed except for one KB968930 (windows remote management and Power shell V2).

Any ideas?

restarting the "tcp/ip print service" it is a dependency of the print spooler, and see if you get an error.

I would also check the event logs to see what has been logged, which should give you more leads.

Looked in the event log and did not see anything would point to the printers. the only errors that I found were MS update failure to in install KB968930.

I ended up manually installing them agian. thanks for the help.

If these are Network Printers

Try shutting down the Hub/Switches that they are plugged into remove the power for about 30 seconds and then plug them back in.

Quite often Hubs/Switches can get messed up with Power Surges/Spikes and stop working. This would leave the Network Printers Listed as working on the Server but with no connection to them they are unable to function.
