Printers Gone

By BlackDiamond ·
Hey,

One of our domain controllers running Windows Server 2000 went down when two drives in the RAID failed. The server had to be reloaded after the drive replacement.

There were a ton of shared printers on this server. We are trying to restore them from tape but are having little success.

We restored everything under the C:\WINNT\system32\spool folder, but that appears to be only the drivers.

Is there a way to get these restored without having to manually reinstall all of them?

We are not sure where this info is stored and have not been able to find much when doing web searches.

Were the printers published to Active Directory?

Did you perform a recovery of AD?

Hey,

Thanx for the suggestion. We are just putting them back in manually. We also found "Print Migrator" and are implementing it in case this happens again. We are also investigating further to see what we are doing wrong.

Hey,

The option for "List in the Directory" was enabled on these printers.

Not sure how to recover tho. We have done system state recoveries before. There does not appear to be anything related to the printers in the system state.

It is possible that we did not have them setup right in AD.

When the other server that has all the printers on it crashed and we had to reload it we had to reinstall each manually which you can understand is not something we want to do again.

Guess I need more hand holding.

Well if they where not added to AD correctly you'll most likely need to do exactly the same thing as you did last time and reinstall each manually one at a time.

If Ad was correctly setup the following should be of help to you.
