problems connecting to messenger…

by geek-chick . Updated 16 years, 11 months ago

Hi
I am hoping someone out there can help me. I can’t seem to sign into Windows Messenger or connect to Limewire. The problem seems to lie with the default gateway.
Have checked device manager, which says my network adapters are working ok.
Have done an ipconfig/all in command prompt which seems to be showing the addresses etc for all (subnet mask, gateway, dhcp, dns etc).
Ran a diagnostics test which showed some failed results regarding network adapter (realtek ethernet) and default gateway.
I can still connect to the internet and navigate to various sites, it just seems to be (so far) just messenger and limewire, which is frequently used a lot at home by everyone!
Another question: Is the address of the default gateway (192.168.0.1) supposed to be the same as the DHCP server address?
I am using windows xp pro.
Any help would be appreciated to help fix this problem.
Thanks
NM
