problems setting up a vpn on college campus with linksys

By craig.andrews ·
I have a linksys BEFSX41 which has a vpn built in. I have used this directly connected to a broadband connection and everything works OK. Recently i have lost my direct broadband connection and have to go out through the college campus network. they allow my vpn to exist and the linksys still shows that the vpn can connect. the problem is that anytime i make a request for an ip address that should be on the remote side of the vpn, it seems to fall off the vpn here on campus and i get connected to a local machine. for example, if i try to ping a computer or router which should be on the remote end of the vpn, i get a computer or router here on campus. obviously remote desktop doesnt have a prayer of working and it doesnt. if i do a trace at the command prompt, it starts at my vpn endpoint, the second address is where it hits the edge of campus, and then timeouts from then on. There is not a "keep all ip traffic on the vpn" checkbox in the linksys, they claim that all traffic is always kept on the vpn.

can someone help? linksys has been worthless so far.
