Problems with taskbar in XT Prof

By ralphchas ·
Using XP Prof. - Usually taskbar on desktop in about 1/4 inch wide and I keep it at bottom of screen. Now it is about 1 inch wide. How do I get it to go back to prev. setting? This happened when I was trying to get volume icon back on taskbar - it disappeared. I used Help and did everything it says, but I still don't see this icon. It was there before. Can anyone help with these ridiculous problem? I also had taskbar move to top of screen. Somehow, I managed to get it back to bottom but I don't know how I did it. Will appreciate some help and tks for all help in the past.

Right-click any blank area on the taskbar.

If 'Lock the Taskbar' is checked, click to uncheck it.

Position your cursor on the top border of the taskbar. It should change to a double-headed arrow.

Click and hold while you drag the top border downward to the width you prefer.

If you'd like, while the taskbar is unlocked, you can click any blank area on it and drag the taskbar back to the top, either side, or back to the bottom. If you have a wide monitor, you may prefer putting it on the side.

Now right-click the taskbar again and click 'Lock the Taskbar' to lock it in position and width.

As to the volume icon, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, and click 'Place volume icon on taskbar'.

Oh, and next time please post questions using the 'Ask a Question' button instead of 'Start a Discussion'. Thanks.
