Problems with Zip and Jazz Drive under N

By smiles6180 ·
I have both a Zip IDE and JAZZ drive (both INT) connected to a NT SP5 machine. The Problem is NT sees the devices, however I can not access the disks unless I reboot with the disks in the drives? Can anyone explain why this is occurring and if there is a solution.

Install the latest NT drivers from Iomega. If I remember correctly you can access the Zip & Jaz drives without the drivers installed but you will inccur access problems like the ones you are having.

Good luck,

Al

What the posible problem could be is that your system doesn't recognise the devices as fully compatible, and your best plan in my opinion is to reinstall the drives and check to be sure that they are corretly calibrated for your particular system. This will be a simple task if you kept your system disks as well as the disks that came with the hardware. With these available you will be able to locate and install the proper software to support said drives.

sorry, one more thing. you might also want to check that they are connected correctly, being internal devices the person(s) who installed them may have crossed a wire or reversed a connection.

I first encountered this with a Compaq Armada laptop. After much haggling with COMPAQ and IOMEGA their formal response was to insert a disk at boot time. Certainly not a professional solution...especially since my occurrence was in early 1999 and it STILL has not been resolved. Thumbs-down to IOMEGA on this one (sorry, guys).

I just spoke with Iomega, same problem. Only ours is scsi. They said to uninstall the drivers and reload. Do not have any disks in the drives when you reload. There reason was that if you boot with the disks in them that it sees them as fixed disks and will have to be there everytime you reboot. Sounds like another excuse from IOMEGA.
