Promise Hardware Raid

By forestlake ·
Currently onsite fixing issue with win 2003 server.

Has 2 x 40GB maxtor ata133 HDD's installed in mirror.

Got an error message to say a drive had failed.

Unable to rebuild mirror with either new 40GB drive or 80GB drive.

Question, what is the best way to copy the mirror raid partition onto new drive & then install on raid controller.

If this is a Promise Tech

RAID Card it should Auto Rebuild after a Drive Failure.

You are better off looking at the data sheet that came with the RAID Card and see what it actually supports and how it rebuilds a RAID Configuration in the event of a HDD Failure.

If this is an Intel M'Board with a On Board RAID Controller it's not a Promise Tech Controller and you need to rebuild the RAID Array from scratch. The Intel M'Board manual will have the directions on how this is achieved.

Thnks for reply Hal 9000
It is a Asus p4p800-e m/board. It has a 5 points menu with option 5 being to rebuild.

The problem is it gets to 95% & then fails!

Perhaps the controller is faulty, I am not sure.

Has the correct configuration options for a RAID Array starting at Page 5-17 and how to repair any problem arrays listed there.

If you no longer have a copy of the owners manual it's available here
