question about Veritas 10 backup Exec

By unimaker2000 ·
Hi, we have Veritas Backup Exec 10 installed on a server, we need to backup remote servers which are:
2x SQL Servers
1x Exchange 2007 Server
2x Domain Controller/File Servers
As far as I know, we need 2 SQL agents, 2 remote agents, and 1 exchange agent? Does version 10 have an agent for exchange? If not what can I use to backup the exchange 2007 server?
Also which servers do I need to AOFO?
Thanks in advance!

Did you understand the question?

by unimaker2000 In reply to Re: Question about Verita ...

I believe you just copied that from the Veritas website. If it's a joke, then that's fine, if it's not, well......
Let me ask the question again, I just need to know what licenses do I need to get for my remote servers for a proper backup setup. Thanks!

Exchange agent

by LocoLobo In reply to question about Veritas 10 ...

Version 10 has an agent for exchange 2003. Not sure about exchange 2007 though. You should contact Symantec for better info.

I think you have the number of licenses right. I'm still new to Backup Exec myself and don't really understand it well. So far though it is working well and partial restores work fine. We don't have a test machine so I haven't tested a complete restore yet. (crossing my fingers)

BE 10d no exchange 2007 agent.....

by unimaker2000 In reply to Exchange agent

Thanks for the reply.
It seems BE10d has no agent for exchange 2007 according from what I read on posts. Honestly, that's pretty damn annoying! Shifting to 11d is not so easy especially on the budget since its agents doesn't work with other BE versions.

I did actually try 11d (trial version) with exchange 2007 agent and tried a disaster recovery from tape ( must have a full backup), in fairness the restore is a breeze all you need is a basic install of windows 2003 server first and push the exchange agent to it, after that restore exchange server from tape, done!
