    RAID 5 Disk removal

    Locked

    by jhowsley ·

I had a HD that failed and was removed from the RAID 5 configuration. The original configuration, had 6 hard drives. Four of these were dynamic for drive “A”. The other drive, “B” had one dynamic drive. The “Dynamic” drive for “B” failed and was taken off line. So my question is this, “Can a drive that is currently being used for the Drive “A” mirror be switched and used for Drive “B”. If so, how do I, or do I even have to move or remove the current information existing on the drive? If that answer is “Yes” is there a tool that works best in this situation? RAID Newbie

My guess is your question may be hardware dependant. I am not aware of any RAID device that allows you to reduce the amount of spindles assigned to a virtual drive just by pointing and clicking a few buttons in the RAID application. You may want to give a bit more information on the hardware that you are using.
