I am attempting to upgrade RAM on a computer for which I have no motherboard documentation. The RAM I purchased was PC-100 DIMM 32MB. The machine is a rather old Dell Dimension M166a. There are two DIMM slots, one is already filled with a pre-existing 32MB DIMM. When I install the new DIMM into the other slot only 8MB (Total 40)is detected. I then removed the old DIMM and put a second new one in and it detected just 16MB. Therefore only 8MB of the new stuff is showing up. Is my machine expecting something other than SDRAM? Are SDRAM and possibly EDO RAM compatible?
