RDP Session label printer not printing within bound

By wsharn ·
Scenario ?
The same version drives are installed on the server and the local workstation. The same application is used on the systems (the app uses the PrintDocument class).

The local system has a Zebra LP2844 printer installed. Label will print normally when printed from the local system to the local printer.

When the local system connects to the server via RDP, a session printer is created for the local LP2844. All configurations match the local configuration. Information will print off the label

Now, the kicker ? reconnect to the RDP session with Printer resource disabled; Install a new printer which points to the local printer via a network share. The labels will print normally through the RDP session.

Label will print normally from:
1) Local machine to local printer
2) Server to local printer if the local printer is shared and the printer is installed and setup manually on the server

Labels will not print using a session printer in an RDP session

Has anyone experienced this issue in any form or have any suggestions as to the cause. I was thinking there is a disconnect between the graphics subsystems between the local machine and the server during an RDP session. When mapping the graphic to printer, the RDP session is not able to accurately collect printer information via the driver instantiated for the session.
