Reboot of Windows 2003 servers after patching

by relmasri . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

Hi,

I don’t know if many have this problem as well, but we run into it every month after installing our windows patches. We manage an environment with over 200 windows 2003 SP2 servers, and we have the following challenges when rebooting. Certain servers need to be rebooted in a certain order, some can’t be reboot, others need to be up before conitnuing with the reboots.

We tried to use a batch file with psshutdown but going through the list every month is tedious and for some reason psshutdown sometimes doesn’t reboot some servers because either the server was rebuilt and psshutdown is no longer there or it just doesn’t work don’t know why. We also tried shutdown but the timing on it only goes up as far as 600 seconds and we go way beyond.

Could anyone suggest any other way to do it?
