Reccomendations for Network traffic monitoring software.

By mikeabcde ·
Hi fellow techs,

We have recently installed fiber (yay) and everything has been good relating to this, except for the bandwidth usage. This has been abused by some of the staff watching online tv shows and totaly blowing our cap, sending the boss somewhat sub orbital.

I would appreciate any advice on good / stable also hopefully free software to use for monitoring by ip and when it reaches a predefined usage amount on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Hopefully it can send an email alert, which im able to auto forward on to the lead I.T adminisrator or be able to send multiple alerts once the X amount of Mb is reached.

The prog will need to be unobtrusive as possible, as a less is more approach is policy, and pretty straight forward and not to hard to come to grips with, i have several devices from managed switches, cisco equipment and linux o/s to come to grips with, the linux isnt part of production so not a requirement if the info can be turned into a chart or graph for management this would be great.

Working in a O/S environment with approx 20 Xp workstations and server 2003 - small business. No roaming profiles.

Thanks in advance for your advice on this i am looking forward to your reponse.
