Recover a Personal Folder

By shelton.mann ·
We are trying to recover a .pst from a personal folder that was created by one person to be given to another person for the job. The inbound person has able to review the .pst just a couple days ago. Now we are unable to access the .pst. Please help.

We have tried to add the .pst to the inbound person's Personal Folder. The Personal Folder is successfully added to Outlook. Once you try to open a message, it ask if you want to "Save to a disk" or "Open directly" (paraphrasing a little). Then amessage comes up saying "Unable to open file.xnk. We have found that we saved the original files somehow as shortcuts. The original files are what we are trying to recover.

If this file was saved onto there directory(e.g. I:\my directory) it should still be there. Try to delete the profile and recreate the profile using the same directory.

Is this pst on a server or a persons computer? Are the outlook programs the same version like outlook 98 or express? Remove and reinstall outlook and remap the pst file. Recopy the file and see if the first person can use it. Was there encription used?

If you've already got the .pst file you know someone else has to open, then go into outlook and select Import and Export. Select Import from a file, select .PST from the list that appears and then find the file. Import it into the Personal Folders, and choose whatever options you want for duplicates.

If you need to copy stuff or make the .pst, then use Import and Export again, but select export to a file. Choose what you want to export (i.e. your entire personal mailbox), and choose to make it a .pst file.

Hope this helps, good luck,
