Recover from failed BIOS flashing

By bradbiz ·
COMPAQ Presario 1220 notebook.
Attempted to re-flash the BIOS, it failed when 75% complete. Any suggestions how to fix it?

Install a replacement BIOS chip (if the BIOS is located in a socketed chip). Use the BIOS recovery feature (available on many systems with surface-mounted or soldered-in-place BIOS chips on the motherboard). Then reflash the bios.

Yes, I understand that replacing the BIOS chip will work. I just don't know where to find a replacement. Most big BIOS suppliers do not source for portable computers. (I've tried) BIOS recovery procedure sounds promising. Does anyone know if one exists for this system?

You can buy a pci bios programer, these are simple pcb's that you can plug the bios chip and program it through your parallel port usually. they cost i think around $40.

What did COMPAQ say?
They used to be pretty good before they were taken over by HP.
This laptop is definitely out of warranty.
I also assume you are unable to boot, and need a new BIOS.
We have seen so many flash BIOS failures in all brands, I am beginning to wonder if this feature should be eliminated or fixed.
