recycle bin delete does not delete files

By millionairemarianne ·
I am trying to free up space on my hard drives by deleting files and programs. The "uninstall" feature does not work per a missing file or error. Files that are in the recycle bin will not delete either per a "file system error 1026". Can you explain how I can fix this in order to delete files from the recycle bin and other folers.

I feel like I'm starting to sound like a broken record.

Then again, I have seen problems running in streaks here.

Anyhow, I suggest that you start by running System File Checker.

Insert your W98 CD.
Exit the setup program.

From the run box on the start menu, run sfc.

If you still have problems, you may need to run a registry utility such as:
Norton Win Doctor
or, V-Com Fix-It.

I am not too familiar with this area. I put the 98 CD in and it does not autorun for some reason(therefore I do not have to do the "exit setup"(if this is what you are referring to). Then I enter "system file checker" in the run box, this pulls up a window called "system". It has thousands of files in it. What do I do next? I am at a loss. Please help. Thank you!

Don't type in the full name, just the initials SFC

A dialog box should pop up and one of the options is to scan for missing and corrupt files.
