Hi,
This is rather drawn out but I need to provide all history. I got a call from a client who said there pc was acting up and they had a lot of error messages. I looked at the pc running W98 no second edition with 192 MB RAM. There was all kinds of programs running along with a failed install of Catz. When I clicked on the c: drive the registration for this Catz program opened. They also wanted a second paralell port. I tried to install a pci card and went through all the BIOS settings and port settings but could not get it to work. I also stopped most of the running programs. Then they called and said they where getting more error messages than before. All that is mute now.
I could not figure out what was happening. I scanned for virus with updated definitions and found no virus. I ran FDISK and deleted the existing partition and created new partition, formated and reinstalled. The install goes fine.During setup Internet Explorer 4.0 and Outlook Express 4.72 are installed. When Idid the reinstall for the first time and tried to run updates it said all componnts could not be installed. I then reinstalled without Outlook Express and got some rundll32 error messages along with dw15 errors. I have a user set up and no matter which log on it does it. On one attempt to access IE it came up with a download box from yahoo.com with a file named yahoo to install. I reboot and it is gone. When I try to go to windows update through the start button it says page cannot be displayed. But if I open IE and go to update it will run. The problem is during update it has error message invalid instruction in module dxtrans.dll @ 015f: 35c53ad6 and will freeze. I am puzzled.
Point for whoever leads me to the solution.
Thanks
