REmote connection to Win 2003 server

    Locked

    by jf555 ·

Here is the situation: Have Win2003 server, STD Editon not configured with Active Directory, just plain old file sharing in workgroup mode. Four users take their laptops on the road and would like to connect to the server mapped directories to retrieve their files. What do I need to do at the server and on their laptops to achieve this? We have a SonicWall FireWall guarding the LAN, Thanks,

    Jeff

First check if your sonicwall acts as a vpn server > if yes then review all step and set external access to the Firewall and on the client use the VPN settings to match the firewall
      (PPTP=PPTP) and so on.

If your firewall is not a vpn server then you need to enable one on your network ( you could use the RRAS in windows 2003 and follow all necessary configuration , but traffic needs to pass through your firewall to be able to access the server , one way or another you need to enable static ip with IPsec or clients remote vpn, check with Sonicwall )
