Error Message “The connection to the remote computer was broken. This may have been caused by a network error…”
Setup: (small network, no 2nd server)
– Server 2003 SP2; Domain Controller; DNS, WINS, Terminal Services Manager, TS Licensing Manager, Per User mode, 5 Per User CALs installed, Remote Desktop allowed thru Control Panel->System; 2 remote access users exist in Domain, Administrators, & Remote Desktop Group
– Remote connecting client is XP SP2
– Network is DSL; Linksys RVS4000 VPN Router, DHCP server, no additional ports forwarded, 2 remote users added to VPN
VPN connection to Linksys works every time; can map drives and access folders on server every time.
– Remote Desktop Connection works first time for every new user. 2nd time user attempts connection, black desktop screen appears, 30 seconds later “…broken connection…” error.
– If I add a new user to XP client, new user connects fine 1st time, but not after that.
– TS on server still shows very first attempted remote connection as a temporary “Per Device”. Don’t see a way to delete or remove. System says it will expire in a couple months.
– I made current remote users “administrators” just to try and get this to work, prefer to use regular “users”.
– Inside LAN Remote Desktop connection work fine every time. VPN connection only work 1st time.
