Remote Office Sites in WSUS 3.0 Setup

By techview0505 ·
I am located in a main office downtown in City A with a WSUS 3.0 box and I also have a remote site uptown in City A. I wanted the clients to talk to my WSUS 3.0 in my downtown office. I which I know how to setup. It it wise to have remote sites in the same city or even other eastern states to connect to my WSUS 3.0 box. So I do not have to setup child WSUS Servers.

Whether to use the one WSUS at the main site or to set up child WSUS, depends on the size of your remote site(s), knowing that with a single server, all of their WSUS traffic will be utilizing the bandwidth of your main site.

With a single server, I would use grouping within WSUS to keep the sites separate from an organizational standpoint. And of course you will need to expose the WSUS port (8530 or other) so the remote clients can access the WSUS server if you don't have a site-site VPN active.
