Remote workers

By friscojw ·
I would like to develop the optimal method for our users to work. I have 2 users who are on the road 75% of the time. Providing them with the means of accessing data on the server and emails is my goal. I am running SBS2003 and have provided remote WEB mail but want to optimize the environment. Should I use the Public Folders to store data? I'll assume I can access the folders through Outlook Webmail? They have also asked about a Blackberry or Treo device for instant access.
I would like to hear how others have configured there network for mobile users

Public folders are available via Outlook Web Access (OWA).

You will need a Blackberry Enterprise Server for the instant messaging. For 2 users, this cost might be prohibitive.

Thanks. What about a TREO device? Is that just like the Blackberry?

Well optimize is a nebulous term. OWA and remote desktop will give remote users just about all the functionality an employee could ask for. They get mail and access to their desktop all from their laptop. The only problem area would be bandwidth.

Using Blackberry with Exchange Server is hideously expensive.

Just check out the prices for Blackberry on Exchange. The server is like $2K+ and then there are the client licenses and the hardware. For 2 users, unless you have $$ to burn I wouldn't recommend it.
