Hi,

Try installing another virus scanner (McAfee VirusScan, Trend PCSillin etc) and see if any of those will get rid of it.

Shareware/trial versions can be found free on the Net or on cover CD's on magazines.

The fact that Norton won't run sure sounds like the klez worm. Klez is not a MRB (Master Boot Record) virus but it sure has the symptoms you've mentioned here. One of the main features of the worm is to disable anti-virus software. Since the computer still boots you can quickly find out. Go to START select RUN and type in MSCONFIG. When that opens go to the STARTUP tab acroos the top. Look in the apps that are starting and there will be a file called "WINKxx.EXE" if it's there you've got it. The other virus that may be Elkern, this is a file that Klez installs. The other way to check is search your drive for files ending in RAR something like BFGR.RAR the filenames are random.

Go to this site to download files and read instructions to create a bootable virus scan diskette.
