By default, Windows assigns hard drive letters as follows:
Primary IDE master, primary DOS partition C: Primary IDE slave, primary DOS partition Secondary IDE master, Primary DOS partition E: Logigal drives on primary IDE master in order logical drives on primary IDE slave in order Logical drives on Secondary IDE master in order
Followed by any IDE removable media drives CD, ZIP, Superdisk.
In XP, that is the 'default' when you set up a system.When you add a new drive, it is added after the last removeable drive.
