Restart Win95 with AMDk6-2/550

By rbhunter ·
Clean load of OEM 2.5 on Alladin5 (GA-5AA-F3) MLB with no sound, NIC only video(ATI Rage 128 Magnum). Install goes well but on first reboot, rec'd the "protection Error" Installed amdk6upd OK. Computer boots to Win95 and appears to work great, except, when choosing RESTART from shutdown menu, computer shuts down instead. Will restart with Cntrl-Alt-Del or reset button and is OK.
What causes the no RESTART?

Canoot pin the exact cause ,try inserting the start up disk in A:/drive and run set up files from the disk then reboot and see if this will work.
2)Boot into safe mode, select the step-by-step confirmation and answer y to each line, and rebott the computer, this may be tried first and correct the problem

Remove Advanced power mannagement and system board extension for PnP bios from the system properties and reboot the system so that it is deteted automatically by the system. check your bios setting whether power management is enabled and the right type of power supply (AT /ATX) is configured in bios.

Disable the ACPI option in yous BIOS at the Power Management. Disable the option of Auto Power Management(APM) controlled by OS. If possible, disable all power management for your computer. Save your setting and after win 95 has been loaded, try to restart your computer.

If it doesn't work refer to your MB manual about the pin connecter, you may have connected the wrong lead to the wrong pin.

Yes, first of all you should disable everything related to power management in both BIOS and OS options. If nothing works, search for your problem at Microsoft and after that try your motherboard manufacturer, maybe there is a BIOS update or something about jumper settings.

I have found that some NIC's will cause interference with the bootup/down process. The Intel 10/100B would not let Compact 5100 shut down, but the 10/100P had no effect. Try a different brand, 3Com perhaps. The suggestions about the Power Mangement shut off is good. I would try the NIC first, then check to see what the power settings are in the CMOS settings, and or the Power settings in the control panel. Whatever they are set to, make them the opposite!

Hope this helps ya!
