Is it the actual hard drive that crashed or was it the mainboard?

If your hard drive is not damaged just install into another PC.

Talk to your local computer store and they should know of a company that will retrieve data from damaged hard drives. It could be very costly, though.

Hello there,

What do you mean by "crashed"?
Does the BIOS detects the hard disk?
If not then just go to your nearst computer store and they will find a company that can recover the information for you.
If the BIOS detects the Hard disk then:
.- Does it boot?
* No, then just get a known good pc and put it as slave and then transfer the data over the other pc and then just try to re-install software.
* Yes, but it stops during the boot; then probably your hard disk has either a Windows corrupted (if you're using Windows) or some bad sectors that won't let it finish to boot.
* Yes, but Windows or whatever OS you're using won't work, then I advice you to put it as slave on another pc, transfer you important data and re-install your OS.

In any case it will be helpful if you provide me with some more information, such as:
.- Computer Brand and Model
.- Operative System
.- Hardware specifications.

Please provide me with more details and I'll help you with it.

Good luck,
@lberto
