Win 98, SE, custom built box, AMD K6 – very clean machine (yup – used by 72 year old lady just for e-mail and solitaire…..). Original complaint was that PC hangs – freezes cold, after 22 minutes (EXACTLY) on the internet. Occasionally also during solitaire. Hdw diag & burn in reveals nothing noteable. Have completely striped TCP/IP & DUN (files, registry entries, etc see MS Q181599)and reloaded from clean CD, removed modem, drivers, modem software, booted clean, reinstalled with new drivers, updated drivers for vid card, sound card, installed all patches & etc. At the shop, PC ran flawlessly, on internet for 2 days – no hangups. Returned to customer – BAM 22 minutes, pull the plug. Tried monitor, keyb, mouse & UPS from shop on site – same – BAM, 22 minnutes, pull plug. Tested power at site, ok – not even 1v variation over 10 min, phone co & I spent 4 hours – line ok, runs fine, laptop and demo desktop do not lock, no interference from other equip, lights, microwaves, etc. Only noteable item is RNAAPP. At site, I tried running PC with startup items removed from MSCONFIG, though I did this at the shop (standard practice), at site – the machine would hang at the desktop with startup items removed – ctl-alt-del showed Explorer & RNAAPP running. Restored startup items, PC boots ok but RNAAPP runs, ctl-alt-del, kill RNAAPP, within 5 seconds, it returns. Yet modem still dials out. ?! After disconnect, RNAAPP still runs and hangs PC at shutdown. Am I flustered? Uh, well – yeah. Returned the machine to the shop – it runs ok. I am baffled as the problem should not be site specific. What do you all think and how do you control RNAAPP?
