Roaming Profiles

by brisimon . Updated 17 years, 2 months ago

Currently we use roaming profiles in our organization. We have alot of problems with users removing icons or adding large files to their desktops which in turn over time slow their logon process down. Sometimes it gets to the point that we have to recreate the profile from scratch. This has become so much of a problem lately that we are starting to think about doing away with roaming profiles. This is something that I don’t want to do for various reasons. I know there are ways we can just lock, the profiles down so that they cannot change the desktop. And then use folder redirection for their My Documents folder. We would just need to train the staff to start using the My Documents folder for storage only and not the desktop. Does anyone have any ideas of other options or even possible some GP scripts of some sort? Thank you.

PS: If you have other options or alternatives please feel free to offer that. I am still not really sure about locking the desktops down, since that might cause problems also..

Our environment is Windows 2000/2003 server and Windows 2000/XP desktop clients.
