routing issues

By anthrax ·
Hi

i just got a laptop and wifi AP, the AP has been attached to my existing network. but now i have 2 subnets

1: 192.168.0.0 Wired - Allied Telesyn AT-AR256E
2: 192.168.1.0 Wifi - Linksys WRT54G2

i can ping from 2 to 1 but not 1 to 2, also if i try using a command like \\mypc\c$ it wont resolve the name and will only work with \\192.168.0.52\c$ for example.

network 1 has the internet connection on it.

the strange problem i have found is that i cant access download.microsoft.com or anything such as automatic updates.

anyone know what might be the cause?

cheers

192.168.0.0 is the network address
255.255.255.0 is the subnet mask.

the laptop is a ASUS X50RL, the AP is a Linksys WRT54G2.

There may be some kind of firewall in the router.

yeah checked the firewall settings and there doesnt seem to be any issues there.

it might have something to do with the WAN port on the linksys AP that is connected to the switch on my AT ADSL router.

The IP of the laptop

by ComputerCookie In reply to reply

has to be 192.168.1.*** for the laptop and the PC to communicate, I suggest you ensure that both computer have the same workgroup name and run the network setup wizard on the laptop.
