RSH Deamon

by GrasshopperGreen In reply to Keh!

Sorry if i was unclear saying RSH Server. Actually the name goes as RSH Deamon. This serves the RSH Client requests. RSH stands for Remote Shell. I also came across a download for Win XP.

Greatly appriciate if anyones got deamon installations for Windows Server 2008 R2. Well, actually i got to know that "r" utilities (rexec, rsh, finger) have been dropped from Win Server 2008 and Vista. Need to install Subsystem for Unix based Applications (SUA) feature even to get the RSH Client working. Not sure how to start the RSH deamon service in Windows Server 2008. If anyone knows this pls let me know.

Thanks in Advance !!

What exactly do you need to achieve?

by seanferd In reply to RSH Deamon

Windows has it's own RSH and RDP. (RSH is not enabled by default.) Do you need to connect from a Unix?

There's PuTTY, or you could secure the native telnet.

Just guessing here.

Install service

Once your have installed the service using Rshd -install, you will need to restart the server to apply it.

Load up Services.msc and locate Rshd service in the list and start it.
